Pipistrel Alpha, Pipistrel Alpha Trainer, Pipistrel Aircraft. Micahel Coates of Pipistrel USA talks to us about the new Pipistrel Alpha Trainer, a light sport aircraft developed by Pipistrel Aircraft for a flight training environment.
Pipistrel USA introduced the Pipistrel Alpha to the U.S. market during the EAA AirVenture convention in 2012. The Alpha trainer was specifically designed for the light sport aircraft training enviroment. The Alpha is equipped with us beefed up landing gear, and has a steerable nosewheek. The nosewheel assembly and sitting at a lower angle for better visibility.
The biggest picked Pipistrel Alpha is a two-seat light sport aircraft trainer, it has side by side seating, full dual controls and is equipped with an 80 horsepower Rotax 912 aircraft engine.
The Alpha trainer will cruise along all day at 110 knots using only 2.5 gallons of regular auto fuel. With the 15 gallon tank this gives approximately 5 hours of flying time, with a reserve.

The standard aircraft is instrument package consists of a combination of digital and steam gauges.
The Pipistrel panel also comes with an electronic attitude indicator, and AirGizmo panel Doc, the Garmin GTX 327 transponder, a 406 megahertz ELT, and the Garmin Aera 500 GPS.
Michael Coates the U.S. distributor for Pipistrel a number of Pipistel Alpha's have been delivered to U.S. customers. The factory plan is to produce 10 aircraft per month.
